Whittlesey Rifle Club had busy June as free sporting event attracted almost 100 youngsters
Whittlesey Rifle Club had a busy June - with award wins, taster sessions and plenty of events.
Almost 100 people took the opportunity to try target sports shooting for free when the club provided taster sessions in support of the town’s Big Bash.
During the event, its president, Paralympian Matt Skelhon, unveiled a blue plaque honouring his medal-winning and world record-breaking achievements.
The club was also celebrating success at the Pride of Fenland Awards in Wisbech, as chairman David Ransome received an award recognising his and the club’s ongoing contribution to the community in the field of sports and recreation.
To cap the month off, the club volunteers ran yet another free open day and taster session in support of the town’s Armed Forces Weekend.
The club’s vice chairman, Andy Surtees, said: “The whole club is proud to see Matt and Dave heralded for their contributions.
“Our success and growing membership reflect the hard work of all the volunteers who, amongst many things, support our open days and run weekly sessions for young people and probationary members.
“It is lovely to see diverse groups of people of all ages socialising and taking part in competitive sport together while growing their skills, irrespective of ability.
“It was also great to see so many successful free events being organised in Whittlesey throughout June, which shows the strength of our local community.”
