Classic success for annual Tydd St Mary car show
Well over 400 cars, lorries, tractors and scooters of all shapes, sizes and ages took part in the annual Tydd St Mary Classic Vehicle Rally on Sunday.
The family day drew the crowds and proved a massive success raising over £7,400 for the village playing field and other local good causes.
The leading organiser Allen Smith, who has been arranging the event for the past 10 or 11 years, was thrilled with how successful the day was with at least 800 people going along.
He thought some of the oldest vehicles attending dated back to the mid 1920s and said there were other modern models too.
“Anything of interest is what we like to see. We had a traction engine, there were some military vehicles, modern classics, motorbikes, scooters, tractors and everything in between, of all shapes, sizes and age,” he said.
There were also craft stalls, various commercial stalls as well as food and drink.
Allen paid tribute to the members of Tydd St Mary Playing Field Committee who have spent the last few months putting everything in place ready for the event and also to the group of volunteers who turned out on the day to steward and make sure everything ran smoothly.
He also thanked the volunteers who man the barbecue which uses meat from local Rosse butchers.
How the money raised will be spent has yet to be properly decided but it will partly go towards the upkeep of the playing field.
Allen added: “I am so proud of the committee and the volunteers who make the event such a success, and also grateful to everyone who came along either with a vehicle or to have a look around and enjoy the day.”
