Wisbech Town Council is offering someone the chance to be queen for the day

Wisbech Town Council is offering one lucky girl the chance to be queen for the day.

The authority, which has taken over the running of the town’s historic Rose Fair, has launched a search for someone to lead the parade when it is held on Saturday, June 29 this year.

The Rose Fair Queen has been part of the Rose Fair celebrations for nearly 60 years, but in the past four years there has been no parade because of various factors including the covid pandemic and a fire in a building on Wisbech Market Place.

There will once again be a Rose Queen as town council takes over running Rose Fair.
There will once again be a Rose Queen as town council takes over running Rose Fair.

But now the town council has decided as part of its take-over of the event the role of Rose Queen will return.

Now all is needed is to find a suitable candidate to head-up the parade.

The lucky winner will receive a cash prize of £100 (kindly donated by AER Electrical Services Ltd) and a trophy.

Before the event, she will have her hair styled by The Retreat, her nails done by Evie from the Lash and Beauty Lounge, and make-up by Eboni Rose Make-up, as well as a beautiful dress to wear. To capture her special day, Adam Fairbrother (Fenland Citizen photographer) will be taking photographs.

Entry is open to girls aged between 12 and 18 years old, who must be living, working, or learning in Wisbech.

The theme for this year’s Rose Fair is ‘Where it all Began’ - the 1960s.

To enter, all you need to do is send a recent photograph of you, your name, address, age, hobbies, contact number and email address, and a few biographical details about yourself and why you think you should be chosen as the Rose Queen for 2024. Please write your name on the back of the photograph.

A special panel of judges will choose the winner on Tuesday, May 21.

Entries close at 5pm on Wednesday May 1 – but don’t wait until the last minute to enter.

Entries to be sent to: Wisbech Town Council, 1 North Brink, Wisbech, Cambs PE13 1JR or by email to info@wisbechtowncouncil.gov.uk
