Wisbech teenager phoned police which led to the arrest of partner of mother on suspicion of assault

Police have shared a story about how a brave teenager called officers when her mother was being assaulted by her partner.

The partner didn’t believe that the police would turn up, but less than 20 minutes later, officers arrived and arrested him on suspicion of assault.

The incident happened during the early hours of Wednesday morning in Wisbech, when the teenager was woken up by her mum’s partner shouting.

She confided in officers that the man had violently pulled her mum out of bed in front of a young toddler, and her worried mum had told her to call the police.

The teenager kept the other child safe in the house in Wisbech while she called the police.

A spokesperson from Policing Fenland said via its Facebook page: “Some calls to us for help about domestic abuse don’t come from those suffering the abuse itself. They can come from worried family members, friends or neighbours.”

If you or someone you love is suffering from domestic abuse, the police have dedicated officers who can offer support.
