Baby seriously injured in fire at family home in Wisbech this morning

A baby has suffered serious injuries in a house fire in Wisbech this morning, Saturday March 12.

Police were called by the fire service at about 8.30am this morning with reports of a house fire in Lime Avenue.

All occupants were out of the building on arrival, however two adults, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s, were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and have since been taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kings Lynn with minor injuries

A one-year-old child suffered serious injuries and was also taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kings Lynn, but is now being transferred to Broomsfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex, via air ambulance, for specialist treatment.

Three other children, aged two, four and seven, were also in the house at the time of the fire, however they did not sustain any injuries.

Fire investigators are working to establish the cause of the fire.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 8.27am today crews from Wisbech, March and West Walton in Norfolk were called to a fire on Lime Avenue, in Wisbech.

“Firefighters arrived to find a well developed fire in the bedroom of a semi-detached house. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using hose reels and a jet.”
