A far-right councillor has won the by-election for Slade Lode South Ward of Chatteris and has expressed his priorities for the town.

The British Democrats won the by-election after receiving a total of 67 votes, taking 47% of the turnout – meaning Ken Perrin now represents the area.

Independent councillor Jo Fuller-Gray received 35 votes and Labour’s Richard Hirson received 39 votes in the election for Chatteris Town Council.

“We are the only political party in the UK that puts British people first - their voice counts.”

Ken has already submitted to Fenland District Council a 144-resident opposition document on a 70-dwelling development off West Street and is now working to get Speedwatch into the town.

He has spoken about his priorities going forward for Chatteris, including better access to GPs, fixing potholes and gaining more police presence in the area.

Cllr Perrin said: “Importantly, here in Chatteris, the basics that we have all paid for are not there - and I am determined to get these back in place.

“We have to grow as a town, but not at the rate the major parties tell us - we are a market town - they all want to turn it into a city, while the infrastructure needed has been ignored and neglected.

“Our main industry is agriculture and building over our land reduces the amount of food we can produce locally.

“This increases costs and carbon footprint - we must promote sustainability.”

He added: “We British work hard enough, have contributed to the system all our lives and get nothing for it. Charity begins at home.

“I will be proud to serve the people of Chatteris.”
